Image Levels and Types
Pictometry® comprises two types of image: Vertical and Oblique. Vertical images are traditional straight down images, with a ground sample distance of 15cm (6 inches) while Oblique photographs are taken at an angle typically around 40 degrees. Neighbourhood Oblique imagery provides visually identifiable information in great detail and in areas not easily observable from the ground. On average, 80% of a library’s images are oblique.
For the standard Pictometry® product both types of image are flown at ‘Neighbourhood’ level – approximately 1000 metres (3000 feet) or 2000 metres (6000 feet), above ground, producing an average resolution of 15 cm/pixel (6 inches/pixel). Pictometry® images can be produced with a ground sample distance from 8 cm/pixel to 30 cm/pixel according to requirements.
